How your personal information is used by NHS North Yorkshire CCG (Privacy Notice)

This is a privacy notice. It is about the information we collect about you. This notice applies to all information held by NHS North Yorkshire CCG relating to individuals, whether you are a patient, service user or a member of staff.

We have to have this by law (General Data Protection Regulation, May 2018 and Data Protection Act 2018) so you know what we do with information we have about you. The NHS collects all sorts of information to help provide health services to people who need it; some of this information is personal information and the CCG must make sure that it is kept safe at all times. You have a right to understand properly why we collect this information, how we collect it and what we do with it.

We are only able to keep information about you when you know:

  • Exactly who is keeping your information and data
  • Why we are keeping your information
  • What reasons we have for keeping your information
  • The types of personal information we will keep
  • Where your personal data has come from
  • Who we might share information with and why
  • How long we will keep your information
  • What your rights are for example- if you want to see your records
  • What if I think the information you have about me is wrong?
  • How you can stop us from having your information
  • How you can make a complaint

Our records may be held on paper or in a computer system. We can only keep information that is relevant to our work with you. Records have to be accurate, up to date, secure and kept for a limited amount of time only.

There is a new national opt-out that allows people to opt out of their confidential patient information being used for reasons other than their individual care and treatment. The system offers patients and the public the opportunity to make an informed choice about whether they wish their personally identifiable data to be used just for their individual care and treatment or also used for research and planning purposes.
