North Yorkshire and York Area Prescribing Committee

The North Yorkshire and York Area Prescribing Committee (APC) will be responsible for decision-making and advice in relation to prescribing and medicines optimisation within services commissioned by NHS North Yorkshire CCG and NHS Vale of York CCG and/or provided by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.

Alongside the core membership, will be Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council, together with primary care independent contractor organisations aligned with the two CCGs.

Formulary and new drug requests

The North Yorkshire and York Area Prescribing Committee will be responsible for approval of new drugs, extending the use of existing formulary drugs to new indications and for the production of the North Yorkshire and York Formulary - which provides details of medicines approved for use in North Yorkshire and York. Decisions around new drug requests will take into consideration safety, clinical effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness relative to other treatment options for the condition under discussion, as well as the potential available budget. Decisions will be made on fully published trial data only.
